Everything you need to know about BackupMonitor.
BackupMonitor is an automatic backup monitoring service. It analyzes backup reports sent by your software (Veeam, Acronis, Synology, QNAP, rsync, etc.) using artificial intelligence and alerts you immediately when a problem is detected.
It works in 4 simple steps:
bk-abc123@backupmonitor.cloud)BackupMonitor is compatible with any backup system that can send a report by email. No specific configuration is required. Commonly used systems include:
Each received report is processed by an AI model that automatically identifies:
The AI produces a clear summary and only alerts you when action is needed.
You can set an expected frequency for each collection address (every 24h, 48h, 7 days, etc.). If no report is received within the configured timeframe, BackupMonitor sends you a missing report alert. This is often a sign that the backup is no longer running at all.
Your backup report history is retained for 15 days. After this period, reports are automatically deleted. We recommend regularly checking your dashboard to monitor the status of your backups. Alerts (errors, missing reports) are sent in real time, so you don't need to rely solely on the history.
Yes. Registration takes 30 seconds and you immediately get 7 days of free trial without entering your credit card. A first collection address is automatically assigned to you.
At the end of the 7-day trial, report processing is suspended. Your collection addresses and history are preserved. Monitoring resumes as soon as you choose a paid plan. You will receive an email to notify you of the expiration.
You can create as many collection addresses as needed, regardless of your plan. Each address can correspond to a different server, client, site, or backup type, allowing you to organize your monitoring as you see fit.
Each collection address has the format bk-xxxxxxxx@backupmonitor.cloud with a unique automatically generated identifier. You can assign a custom label (e.g.: "Main server", "Office NAS") to easily identify them in your dashboard.
Two methods are available:
bk-xxx@backupmonitor.cloud addressBoth methods work perfectly. The forwarding rule is often simpler as it requires no changes to your backup software configuration.
BackupMonitor can send alerts in three situations:
Two channels are available, independently configurable:
You can enable both simultaneously to never miss anything.
Pushover is a push notification app available on iOS and Android. It allows you to receive BackupMonitor alerts directly on your phone, even when you're not at your computer. The app costs a one-time license fee of a few dollars and requires no subscription.
To configure it, enter your User Key and App Token in the "Alert preferences" section of your settings. You can then test the notification with the dedicated button.
Yes. If your backup reports regularly mention excluded or skipped files (which is normal in some configurations), you can enable the "Ignore excluded/skipped files" option in your settings. These cases will no longer be considered errors and will not trigger an alert.
Three plans are available after the trial period:
All plans include: automatic AI analysis, email and Pushover alerts, missing report detection, and unlimited collection addresses.
The daily quota is the maximum number of backup reports that BackupMonitor can process per day for your account. This quota resets every day at midnight. If your quota is reached, additional reports will not be processed until the next day and you will be notified by alert.
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from the Plans page. The change is immediate and proration is applied automatically: the remaining time on your old plan is credited to your next invoice.
